Why I’m Running
It is written in the Declaration of Independence that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable Rights and among these rights are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
I believe Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness are the American Dream and I am living the American Dream! Only in the United States can a poor girl, whose first language was not English and who did not learn to read until the 5th grade, grow up to be a two-term state representative, Certified Public Accountant, and middle-class mom of three.
This morning I am announcing my candidacy for Congress in the Second Congressional District because I want my children and future grandchildren, our children and grandchildren, to live the American Dream and experience the tremendous opportunities I have enjoyed.
I am running because I am concerned, as you are, about out-of-control federal-government spending which has led to an enormous $18 trillion dollar national debt, a debt which threatens the health of our nation’s economy, the economy we depend on to earn a living. It is imperative to get federal spending under control. I am concerned, as you are, about the need to protect Americans from those who would seek to harm our country and we the people who live here. We must have a strong defense. And, I am concerned, as you are, how we can make government work effectively for us and not against us as we pursue the American Dream. Government intrusion into our lives must be reduced.
My legislative work in Congress will focus on fiscal responsibility to strengthen our nation’s economy, strong national defense to protect our country and its people, and a government providing opportunity for success to all by reducing overburdening regulation and getting out of the way of people and their businesses.
I am running because of the compelling need to have Congressional members who are trusted, experienced, and determined.
As a mother I have demonstrated my tenacity and dedication to serving others. As a Certified Public Accountant I have shown my integrity and independence to do what is right. As a Minnesota state representative my voting record bears clear testimony of my ability to stay focused on our shared concerns, to honor the trust placed in me, and the ability to make government work for our benefit by advocating for transparency, reduced regulation, and a business friendly environment.
My voting record and service in the Minnesota House of Representatives demonstrates my focus on your concerns; my willingness, my eagerness, to listen to you; and my courage to vote as I have committed.
I am a conservative Republican and in my careers as a Certified Public Accountant and State Representative, I have three times taken an oath to support the U.S. Constitution; and I promise to continue to do so.
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2016 Second Congressional District election is extremely important. It’s time for government to work for the people, rather than the other way around. I pledge to work my hardest to win the election and serve you, the people of this district, and be your new voice in Washington.
